one less thing

This little gem was printed on my starbucks VENTI coffee Sunday as I was frantically hammering out a 20 page paper (and that was with times new roman 11 without double spacing.whoa)

Americans spend an average of 29 hours a week watching television-which means in a typical life span we devote 13 uninterrupted years to our TV sets! (mon dieu!) The biggest problem with mass media isn't low quality-its high quantity. cutting down just an hour a day would provide extra years of life-for music and family, exercise and reading, conversation and coffee.

13 years. That fact is staggering to me. My momma puts herself on a media fast every night after 7. This means that she will get in bed and read instead of watching mindless TV or blog hopping. It's a great idea. However, I could not live without The Office or Big Love, DVR doesn't count does it?

Yesterday, in the mail, I got notice that I have been accepted into the Family Health Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program!! hey hey!! I'm so excited and relieved. When I applied to the program I was accepted into the Adult Acute tract (AANP)-I wanted to be all Meredith Grey prancing about the hospital. The main difference between the two is that FNP's are primary care providers while AANP's work in the hospital managing acutely ill patients and even performing procedures like lumbar punctures and bone marrow transplants (Think Grey's Anatomy vs Private Practice-hmmm clearly I'm making a dent in that 13 years). Once I started working and learning I realized that acute care is not my cup of tea. Instead I realized that I LOOOVE health, nutrition, lifestyle, wellness, mental health counseling...etc etc...so primary care is where I should be. It doesn't sound as exciting as acuteness and procedures BUT managing chronic illness (or managing healthy people!) is what interests me most. I've been paranoid for the past few months that they wouldn't let me in. YES one less thing to be paranoid about.one less thing, phew.
